Affairs of the Parts

Affairs of the Parts Art Exhibit at Green Door Art Gallery in Webster Groves, MO

Affairs of the Parts is a collage-focused exhibition that embraces the poetry of fragmentation and the romance of recombination. With a nod to Valentine’s Day, the show explores how love, identity, and memory are built from many pieces—tender, raw, and beautifully imperfect.

Featuring MaryJo Clark, Linda Solovicthe Women of the Women’s Art Collective, and jewelry by Joe Bova Conti, the exhibition brings together diverse voices united by a shared language of collage. Paper, texture, image, and gesture intertwine in works that reflect the emotional architecture of the heart.

On Exhbit: January 21 – March 14, 2026

MaryJo Clark

My artwork is an invitation to pause and look deeper—to engage with the distinctions of surface and space, and to feel a sense of curiosity.

When creating mixed media collage pieces, I am drawn to the process of arranging textures, colors, and forms through the layering process to create abstract compositions in which familiar elements evolve into new and ambiguous imagery, inviting viewers to make their own connections with each piece.

When choosing to work more representationally, I create pastel paintings, as the medium provides the perfect blending of drawing and painting. The rich, vibrant colors allow for blending and layering, and the stick form of pastel allows for the same qualities of mark making that I so enjoy about the drawing process.

Whether my process is deliberate or intuitive, it involves layering, assessing, and reworking until a composition achieves both balance and harmony no matter the subject matter.

Linda Solovic

Linda Solovic is an artist from St, Louis and since she was 5 years old, she has been making art. It is her passion and she can usually be found creating in some form everyday.

Her artwork is decorative, colorful and always has a touch of whimsy and humor. Most days you can find her in her studio working on her collages, taking online classes,
doing illustrations, or creating images on her iPad.

Linda graduated from Washington University in St. Louis. After graduation, she worked as an illustrator creating images for national clients such as Klutz Books, Scholastic, Sesame Street, and Purina. In 2006 she changed the focus of her art and went into licensing her artwork for products with Natural Life, Trader Joe’s, Papyrus and Enesco. She also taught illustration and licensing at Washington University in St. Louis from
1991 till 2022.

When not in her studio she can be found at flea markets or estate sales, making quilts, covering furniture with found objects such as pencils or rulers, hand coloring paper for her collages, making plushes and embroidering. Christmas is her favorite holiday.

Linda lives in a house in St. Louis Hills with her husband, Gary Karpinski, and her two cats Dexter and Findlay. She has a daughter Anna Karpinski who is an art director and very active in the St. Louis Design Community.

Women’s Art Collective (or WAC), is a group of women artists, coming together bi weekly to share in life, creativity and art making. WAC is led and facilitated by Kelly Larson, who plans a year long “theme” so as to create a body of work within a year. We culminate the year with a gallery showing, which is always fun and exciting!

WAC has been in existence for 10 + years, with much of the same women participating since the beginning, and a few more added.

We work in mixed media, with a focus on fiber/textiles, utilizing surface design and printmaking techniques on cloth and paper. Our theme for 2026 is learning from various women artists, such as Faith Ringgold, Hannelor Barron, Agnes Martin, Judith Scott, Joan Mitchell, and  Hilma Av Klint, among others.
