Michelle Spencer - pastel paintings
Michelle Spencer
Born and raised in Jefferson County, Missouri, Michelle is influenced by the variety of landscapes; “Nature is my greatest inspiration. Painting outdoors connects me to nature, and I am passionate about plein air and love getting lost in the wonderful process.” Capturing the light, color, and the atmosphere is what she strives to depict. She always has a sketchbook book, a box of pastels and watercolor kit in her car. “I never know what will speak to me, I pull over and capture the moment.” Many of Michelle’s paintings depict scenes from Jefferson County.
She is a member of Pastel Society of America, St. Genevieve Art Guild, Heartland Art Club, Red Rock Pastel Society of Nevada, Great Lakes Pastel Society, Mid-America Pastel Society and Vice President of the Gateway Pastel Society.
Alicia Farris - watercolor paintings
Alicia Farris’ journey with watercolor began when she was a child, as she loved looking at the world through colorful and creative eyes. She adores sharing her passion for painting in water media as she feels artists share a special sense for both seeing and feeling their subjects. She helps inspire her students to use color and light to paint a story from their hearts, not merely what their eyes see.
Kathy Morrison - watercolor paintings
Kathy’s love for painting started nearly 50 years ago at the age of 10, when when begged her parents for private oil painting lessons. Her art instruction continued through her high school and college years where Kathy learned a variety of mediums including pastel and watercolor. Painting was just a hobby until Kathy discovered her passion for Plein Air painting after taking a workshop with Billy O’Donnell. She began competing in Plein Air events and found her ‘tribe’ of like-minded painters. In 2021 Kathy switched her focus to watercolor, which she has been practicing and competing primarily since. But occasionally, she returns to her roots in oils.
Kathy lives in the Midwest with her husband Tom and their three dogs.
Gary Tetley - Photography
“Growing up in mid-century St. Louis, I remember an abundance of great architecture in
every part of the city I visited. From the magnificent high-rise office buildings Downtown,
to the beautiful theaters that once lined Grand Avenue, to my native University City and
our incredible City Hall, I felt the energy of a city steeped in appreciation of education, art and culture, and I believe that is what led me to a career as an architect.
I began to self-educate myself, with a combination of work experience and evening college classes, to establish my architectural career, and found Modern Architecture to be extremely interesting, especially in the tradition of Le Corbusier. The idea of using drawing, sculpture
and photography seemed an ideal means to simultaneously express and capture the
beauty of the built environment. In my photography I constantly search for places of
inspiration, places of highlights, colors, patterns, light and history. Places of art, sculpture
and architecture for sure, but also places of industry, transportation and engineering are
just as inspiring.
Valley Park is a small town located along the banks of the Meramec River in St. Louis
County, and is the subject of my recent work. The fabric of the community is a collection
of industrial structures, businesses and residential neighborhoods. There is a blend of
many different materials, shapes and sizes, all with different characteristic and
compositions. I have found it to be a fascinating place that never fails to reveal a new
layer of complexity with every visit. These images are some of my attempts to convey and
preserve what I see.”
