Ken Konchel - Photography

Provocatively capturing architecture in an abstract, graphic way keenly interests me.  My intention is to make compelling photographs that remove the context and distill architecture to nothing but relationships of shape, line, pattern, detail, tone and/or texture.

My aim is to photograph buildings in arresting ways, creating compositions that do not immediately reveal themselves as architecture.

Ken Konchel has won 74 awards in juried exhibitions and art fairs. He has had 25 solo exhibitions, 14 group exhibitions and has been juried into 195 exhibitions across the country. A published 2014 monograph of his images, titled Architectonic, is in the collection of the Library of Congress.

Lois Jacobs - Mixed Media Jewelry

Hands touching pulp, smells of cooking plant fibers, sounds of copper being cut/filed and seeing combinations of adhered handmade papers on copper are a few of my favorites as I create my jewelry and mini books. The combinations of the hand formed parts sometimes keep me awake at night thinking so I put on my coffee, go to my studio and indulge in my passion! Combining “things” has been a life-long adventure and is now relegated to primarily using recycled copper and hand making paper from acid free fibers and processed plant fibers — iris and day lily my favorites.

I love learning! Attending Drexel University in Philadelphia, Towson University in Baltimore, Rockhurst in Kansas City, Washington University, Webster University and Maryville University, all in St. Louis, I’ve earned a BS in Art, MAT in Communications and my +45; certification in K-12 Art, Gifted and National Board in Elementary Art. My teaching was recognized by others as I was awarded Teacher of the Year, Star Teacher, MO ElementaryTeacher of the Year and many grants for my students. While teaching, I was still learning and continued producing art. I’ve been juried into art shows, awarded Best of Show in several and had several photos published. I have been juried into Best of Missouri Hands for both papermaking and jewelry. Currently I am retired from teaching at both the elementary and university level and have more time to pursue learning new techniques and producing new items of wearable jewelry. Continuing…
