Anthony Scheffler - Wood

“My intent and challenge is to create unique, contemporary forms which evoke a personal and consequential response.”

Anthony Scheffler explores simple forms. His unique sculptures are informed by function and defined through visual patterns which are purposely architectural.  In contrast, his abstract wall hangings are primitive and evoke interpretations in the absence of function or familiar forms.  Scheffler works primarily with wood incorporating weathered metal, and found objects. Fundamental to his work is a belief that technique should advance, but remain subordinate to, intent.  To date his pieces include vessels, teapots, and abstract wall sculptures. He is largely self-taught, influenced by his relationships with other artists while steeped in the culture and artistry of News Orleans.
